An Open Letter to Rev. Mills

12th November, 2010
Dear Rev. Mills:
As per our telephone conversation last week, you indicated you would visit Green Turtle Cay and share in our Christmas Festival of Lights this month.  I promise you will not be disappointed! Our small island is transformed into a fairyland with our custom pole decorations and the many homes and businesses that will be decorated.  Our new feature this year is the Tunnel of Lights at the crest of the school hill.  Thursday, the 25th of November will be the first night of our four day festival.  The evening will start at Settlement Point with a community Thanksgiving dinner catered by Laura’s Kitchen.  The dinners are reasonably prices at $15 for adults and $10 for the children – the menu will be ham or turkey with all the trimmings and will be served anytime after 5:45.   Mouthwatering desserts will be available along with sodas, coffee and hot chocolate.  The island has brought back three old traditions – one being the TORCHLIGHT PROCESSION where 56 of our young people will proudly march and display their custom handmade lighted box creations led by our two HAIL’EM GALS, a drum escort and Corporal Williams.   If you would let me know what ferry you will be on, I will meet you at the dock and have golf carts ready for you and your guests.  Your dinners and desserts will be complimentary.

Friday, the 26th will be our soup and Johnny cake evening…I mean old fashioned soups like mama used to make…Pea Soup and Dumplings, Potato Soup and Conch Chowder to name a few.   Our jingle Bell trot through town will precede our Golf Cart Parade and end up at the Settlement Point where we will have a fireworks display.
Saturday, the 27th will be an exciting fun-filled day at the fair starting at noon again at the Settlement Point with bouncing castle, clowns, bingo, hoop-la, horseshoes and some new games.  Today, our ladies will display and sell their beautiful homemade crafts.  A wide variety of food will be available - chicken wings and macaroni, conch fritters, hamburgers early in the day and steak and chicken dinners in the evening.  A fair would not be complete without cotton candy and popcorn.   The hilarious stage show tonight will be Bert Parks and our GTC ‘Beauty’ Pageant.  At this time, I am not sure if Diana Ross or the Village People will complete our evening’s entertainment.

Saturday the 11th of December will be our Lite the Nite Boat Parade.  The route will take them from Black Sound, White Sound, Settlement Creek and end at the Main Concrete dock in New Plymouth where Santa and his elves will be there passing out gifts to our young people.  Bingo will be going on for our older guests.  Another old tradition here on Green Turtle Cay will make its presence tonight – BUNCE along with the Hail’em gals and a Junkanoo Rush.

We hope with your busy schedule you will share more than one evening with us.  If you need any further information, you can contact me at 475-0989 or any committee member.
